Well it's been awhile. It was a horrid -40 overnight (including windchill) factor. The normal high for this time of year is about -5. There seems to be no letting up for the next 7 days. I am looking forward.

Make me a Channel of Your Peace

Make me a channel of your peace
Where there is hatred let me bring your love
Where there is darkness, - only light
Where there is sadness, ever joy

Make me a channel of Your peace
Where there is despair in life let me bring
Where there is darkness, - only light
Where there's sadness, ever joy

O Spirit, grant that I may never seek
So much to be consoled as to console'
To be understood as to understand
To be loved as to love with all my heart

Make me a channel of Your Peace
It is in pardoning that we are pardoned
In giving to all that we receive
And in dying that we're born to eternal life
Prayer of Francis of Assisi

This story happened a little over a year ago and is ongoing. It involves Amy Doiron and her two friends, Kaeli Martens and Katie Froese. At the time Amy was 12, Katie 10, and Kaeli 10. You know how kids like to start up clubs, well this is one club start-up with an inspiring twist. One day I walked out unto our deck and these girls were sitting on our trampoline. They noticed me and Katie said, "We started a club called GGHH." "What does that mean?" I asked. "God's gracious helping hands," Amy said. "Oh that's nice," I said. Kaeli said "We collect dues." Good," I said almost indifferently. "You know how much we collected," she continued. "How much," I asked. Sixty three dollars," Kaeli blurted out. I did a double take. 63 dollars, I said in a suprised tone. "Where in the world did you get that kind of money." I probed. "Oh birthday money, and babysitting money," they said. What do you intend to do with the money, I asked. Give it to the poor, they said. "Wonderful," I said proudly.

About a month later, Kaeli said, "You know how much we have now. "How much, I said. A hundred and twelve dollars. I looked at them in disbelief. By the end of the year they had collected 168 dollars from their own pocket. The money went to help a girl go to school in Uganda.

With a little encouragement from me I suggested that they get other people involved. So over the next 6 months these girls collected over 500 dollars. They are continuing to collect money for the poor in Uganda and with the help of those around they hope to raise 2000 by the July 2003. Praise God for these three little girls who have huge hearts for the the Lord. We as adults have a lot to learn from them.

(I finally got the letters GGHH fixed in my mind. I used to call it GGIF, TGIF GTIF GGTF and so on).
